sugar skulls

thanks (again) to a wonderful family of fellow homeschooling friends, the kids decorated sugar skulls in recognition of dia de los muertos.

why is this family - and especially the mama - particularly wonderful?  well, they introduced us to the art of sugar skull decorating when we moved here to california a few years back.  she takes the time and energy and effort to create many sugar skulls beforehand - in two different sizes (using molds).  she makes the royal icing in a myriad of colors to suit the whims of the young decorators.  she has on hand plenty of decors (jewels, glitters, beads, feathers, and googly eyes) to satisfy all tastes and preferences.  she offers assistance and admiration when requested.  and she's willing to give the space and time for each person to create and execute their personal vision - she knows well that there is no one-size-fits-all.

thank you, cheri.

  1. :-)

We will be missing you next November. Our annual sugar skull party just won't be the same.

  2. :-)

We will surely miss your presence next year! I love this tradition we've created. Maybe we can decorate together via Skype next November. . .
